Scouts has introduced updated requirements for the Scout Communicator Activity Badge, giving young people even more opportunities to explore different forms of communication.
The updated badge includes activities covering presenting information, active listening, accessible communication and traditional methods of communication.
Amateur radio remains a fantastic way to introduce Scouts to communication skills.
Through amateur radio, Scouts can learn about:
- Radio operating procedures
- Callsigns and the phonetic alphabet
- Morse code
- How radio signals travel
- Communicating clearly and accurately
- Speaking with people from different countries and cultures
Radio activities can be incorporated into normal Scout meetings or larger events such as Jamboree On The Air.
We’ve updated the Radio Scouting UK resources to help leaders include amateur radio activities as part of their programme.
